THE FIRST SONG TO HIT ME "YOU KNOW WHERE" was a song I heard today on the radio ~ song by a Swedish group called, ABBA {you know, like the name of our FATHER-MOTHER GOD) and it is called, "I HAVE A DREAM".....It is simply beautiful ~ and I wonder if it was dedicated to the spirit of MARTIN LUTHER KING with his famous "I HAVE A DREAM" SPEECH...I WONDER AS I LISTEN TO THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG!!! Then there was "YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE" by Joe Brooks, which I spent countless hours playing on the piano...simply a great song of TRUE LOVE....followed close by "THE SWEETEST THING" by Otha Young; this is in the same category as the song just mentioned.... There should be a separate category for the next gentleman who sang a Don Gibson song called, "I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU" by ~ you guessed it ~ the one & only King of the Blues but "Born to 'Win' " ~ Ray Charles....This man just takes you to another level...PERIOD!!! I love it when a song writer takes a song to a level of PURE POETRY ~~ like what Paul Simon did with one of my all-time favorites ~ "BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS"....So too, we have Amanda McBroom doing almost as good a job in the beautiful words of "THE ROSE" sung, if I am not mistaken by Bette Midler, who also sang another one of my favorites, ~~ "THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS"....[[I do not know who wrote this song, but if anyone could email me on this, I would appreciate it!]] THREE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITES THAT I NEGLECTED TO MENTION IN THE OTHER SECTION ~ YET TO ME ~ RANK RIGHT UP THERE FOR GETTING ME "HERE" IN ME HEART...are (1) "IF I WERE A CARPENTER" by Tin Hardin & (2) & (3) both by the great Bob Dylan: "BLOWIN' IN THE WIND" & "LIKE A ROLLIN' STONE">>>The first for its depth of meaning so needed in the lost era of the 60s ~~~ and the other because it was so so good holding on to your "baby" while you listened to a seasoined pro strum his guitar & play that harmonica ~~ THE HALCYON DAYS!<<< Of course, Dylan was so so great that almost anything he did WAS GREAT~~like "THE TIMES~THEY ARE A~CHANGIN'"...[As a matter of fact, if anyone sees his new biography, "TIMES HAVE CHANGED" please let me know how it is ~~~PLEASE!!!] Another great song came from ENGLAND with the likes of Sara Brightman [sp.?] who teamed up with Andre Buchelli [sp.?] in a song called, "TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE" ~~and all I can think of is my spirit friend: ANASTASIA! of whom I had to say good bye a long long time ago. [WHEN YOU READ MY SHORT STORY, DUE OUT IN MAY, "ANA & ME" you will see for yourself just why I like songs like ~ "TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE!!!"]...To know her was to love her ~ just like another song that mirrors the same sentiment: "TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM"...who, if I remember correctly, was done by THE TEDDYBEARS....PLEASE~...DEAN...."SEND ME THE PILLOW THAT SHE (ANA)DREAMS ON"...now that you yourself are in THE GREAT BEYOND...PLEASE!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IN TWO OTHER PLACES I ACTUALLY PENNED THE WORDS TO TWO SONGS : ONE WAS MY FAVORITE~"TRUE LOVE" ~~& the other was my mother's favorite: "KISS ME AGAIN"....NOW I WILL PEN THE SONG THAT I SING EVERY MORNING ~~ done by ~~ CHAS & DAVE ~ simply called, "FLYING BACK YO YOU, SWEETHEART" ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ""This time tomorrow night you'll be~~A thousand miles away from me~~Though you will be far away~~I'll be dreaming of the day~~When you come back home to me~~Flying back across the sea~~Flying home-no more to part~~FLYING BACK TO ME, SWEETHEART!!! 'Though I know you have to go~~I am gonna miss you so~~So think of me while we're apart~~AND I will keep you in my heart~~I'll be dreaming of the day~~~ Dreaming of the day you'll say: [[I'M FLYING BACK~NO MORE TO PART~~ FLYING BACK TO YOU~SWEETHEART!!!]] >>SHORT INTERLUDE<< The time has come to say goodbye~~So leave me now for you must fly~~I'll keep dreamin' of the day~~Dreamin' of the day you'll say: [[I'M FLYING BACK~NO MORE TO PART~~ I'M FLYING BACK TO YOU~SWEETHEART!!!]] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Then there is the warm & wonderful song, "SUNSHINE ON MY SHOULDERS" by John Denver, who incidentally sold more albums in the 1970ss than ANY OTHER ARTIST!!! [THINK ABOUT THAT!] He was so good that everyone took it for granted BUT his "for baby" was, as I had indicated before, one of my all-time favorites.... Another group that made things 'look easy' was "THE MANHATTAN TRANSFER" whom I actually saw in person....Their "JAVA JIVES" was as smooth as it was 'EASY' on the ears>>>a sure sign of greatness!!!>."I'LL HAVE COFFEE...I'LL HAVE TEA...."< NO ~ "I CAN'T STOP FALLING IN LOVE" ~ with "REALLY" great songs, whether it's from the beautiful ballads of one, Elvis Presley~ or the haunting sagas of Joan Biaz .... When you come right down to it, a "REALLY ~ GREAT ~ SONG" either makes you laugh ~ or think ~ or cry!!! I laugh 'easy' when I hear "JAVA JIVES"...and think when I hear "BLOWIN' IN THE WIND" ~ BUT ~ SOB!!! when I hear the Everly Brothers sing "EBONY EYES"....BUT I WOULD RATHER 'SOB' ~ AND IF I DON'T SOB ~ AT LEAST CRY AN AWFUL LOT!!! >>>>NOW THAT'S MY IDEA OF A REALLY GREAT SONG!<<<< |
